MVC with Entrapment - John J. Williams Highway w/o Warwick Rd.

Just prior to 0800, as crews were going through the morning duties, Sussex EOC alerted Indian River Fire Co. (80), Station 91, Ambulance 83, and various ALS units to a MVC involving a school bus on Rt 24 in the area of Bulls Eye Lane. First responding unit C-91 was advised that multiple calls had been received advising a vehicle versus bus with entrapment in the vehicle. C-91 arrived on scene confirming a vehicle under the bus with entrapment in the vehicle. C-91s crew split with 106s crew half checked the driver of the car and half searched for the children that had been on the bus. Crews confirmed the driver of the car was deceased and concentrated efforts on evaluating the children from the bus. In all, three children were transported BLS to BMC for minor injuries. Rt. 24 was shut down for an extended period of time while crews from Indian River extricated the driver of the car and DSP investigated. Units responding, C-91, A-91, 80-5, Rescue 80, Ambulance 83, EMS-100, Medic 106, EMS-25, EMS-18, DSP, DSFP.
